Cromolino sódico para la prevención de la enfermedad pulmonar crónica en los niños prematuros.

Ng G, Ohlsson A

No evidence from trials that cromolyn sodium helps prevent chronic lung disease in preterm babies.

Many babies born preterm (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) have breathing problems at birth (respiratory distress syndrome - RDS). If the baby continues to be dependent on oxygen support (usually from machine assisted breathing) after four weeks, they have chronic
lung disease (CLD). These babies have damaged lungs that are not working properly. Inflammation may be the cause. Cromolyn sodium might affect inflammation and so prevent damage. It is sometimes given to babies with RDS who may develop CLD. However, the review of trials found that using cromolyn sodium to try to prevent CLD has not been successful.
