This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

To assess the efficacy and safety of budesonide/formoterol in a single inhaler to be used for both maintenance and reliever therapy in asthma in comparison to maintenance treatment with combination inhalers at higher dose (either salmeterol/fluticasone or budesonide/formoterol), with additional fast-acting beta2-agonists for relief of symptoms.
